We are proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of pupil Tara, Year 5, who has excelled in one of the UK’s most competitive chess events.
Tara recently competed in the 2025 UK Open Blitz Championships qualifier, where she emerged as the top-performing girl in the tournament. Her outstanding performance secured her a place in the prestigious Women’s Final, surpassing several experienced women chess masters along the way.
Only 16 women across the entire UK progress to the Women’s Final, with just one qualifying from each regional event. Fairfield is incredibly proud that Tara claimed one of these coveted places.
Tara then went on to compete in the Women’s Final last month, joining a formidable pool of 16 finalists, including 10 of the country’s top chess masters. As the youngest participant in the competition, she rose to the challenge and delivered a strong performance, winning two games, including a victory over a highly ranked Woman FIDE Master, and securing two draws in a demanding 15-round format.
Her participation in the final provided not only impressive results but also an exceptionally valuable learning experience that will support her development in future tournaments.
Tara’s mother shared her pride: “The finals were an invaluable experience for Tara, giving her lessons and confidence that will support her enormously in future tournaments. We are very proud of everything she achieved.”
Head of Fairfield Prep School, Mr Andrew Earnshaw, commented: “We are immensely proud of Tara’s achievements. To qualify for the Women’s Final at such a young age is extraordinary, and to hold her own against some of the strongest female players in the country speaks volumes about her talent, determination and composure.
Tara is a wonderful role model for young players at Fairfield, and we look forward to seeing her continue to flourish in the world of competitive chess.”
