Our History

Originally founded in 1929 as part of Loughborough High School, Fairfield Prep School became autonomous in 1969.

In those early days, the School was centred around Fairfield House, known to one and all as the White House, and built in 1828 by a local family of influential hosiery manufacturers. Even with the magnificent additions to the School made in recent years, the White House remains at the spiritual heart of our close community.

First-Class Facilities

Such first-class facilities, twinned with outdoor learning, play and sports spaces provide the foundation for a first-class, 21st century Early Years education, attracting pupils from as far afield as Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.

Fairfield’s own Entry Assessments for those aged 4+ are held annually in January, although a number of pupils enter the School each year at later stages of their education.

Now a flourishing School of some 500 pupils, Fairfield is a proud member of the Loughborough Schools Foundation family and is the Prep School to the senior schools: Loughborough Grammar School for boys; Loughborough High School for girls and Loughborough Amherst School for girls and boys. All the Schools sit on a beautiful shared campus on the south side of Loughborough.

Science at Fairfield

I have always felt that science is one of the most exciting subjects you can study. It is all about the world around us, so it doesn’t feel like learning something abstract; it feels like learning to make sense of everyday life, and I love sharing that with the children.   Hearing their early misconceptions is always fascinating …
