Spotlight on Sport at LSF

,

Throughout October and November our pupils have really thrown themselves into their sport. Pupils across all three of our schools competed in over 200 fixtures across eight different sports: from hockey and rugby to gymnastics and badminton!

Loughborough Schools Foundation’s Head of Netball and Loughborough Lightning player, Ella Clark, invited two fellow players to coach a netball lesson at Fairfield. Shadine Van Der Merwe and Samantha Wallace-Joseph led a bespoke training session with the girls, focusing on technique and skill, before answering a Q&A at the end which was full of fantastic questions from our young players.

The Foundation’s sport staff team includes a wide range of incredible professional athletes and sporting talent who our pupils gain a wealth of valuable insight and guidance from. Ella’s connections to the professional game mean pupils benefit from a depth of expertise not typically found in school sport. In Ella, pupils at Loughborough Schools Foundation have more than just a coach, they have a mentor who’s lived the highs and lows of elite sport and now dedicates herself to helping young players thrive.

We were incredibly proud to see some of our pupils represent Great Britain including Ewan, Alastair and Eddie who all represented GB at the European Laser Run Championships, bringing home five medals between them, alongside their Laser Run Coach, Claire!

As well as this, we were thrilled to find out that two Sixth Form girls from Loughborough High School were identified for England Hockey’s prestigious 2025-26 England Age Group (EAG).

In rugby, our 1st XV took to the pitch for their annual floodlight fixture against Solihull. The atmosphere was fantastic, with both peers and parents offering strong support from the sidelines at Loughborough University. The boys represented Loughborough Grammar with pride, delivering a determined and spirited performance.

In hockey, our Loughborough High School 1st XI played in the National Cup 3rd Round away at Uppingham School. It was a closely fought match finishing with a winning goal for LHS with four minutes remaining! Additionally, our team travelled to Kings High Warwick for an exciting U18 Indoor qualifying competition. They finished second in their group. Stepping up at the regional finals they put in a very strong performance finishing the day third in the region.

We are delighted to have opened applications for our incredible Sports Scholarships, available at both of our senior schools, for students in year 7, 9 and 12, for a select number of exceptional young athletes. At LSF, sport is more than just an activity, it’s a vital part of our identity and we are proud to provide an environment where ambition, performance and wellbeing go hand in hand.

In addition to this, a number of LSF pupils are a part of the incredible Loughborough University National Tennis Academy (LUNTA), which provides bespoke programmes for British junior players aiming to become elite level tour professionals. Several LHS and LGS pupils have recently joined the academy and have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination.

And finally, our swimming teams swam superbly at the Leicestershire County Championships last week, with our Grammar School Key Stage 4 team and High School Key Stage 3 teams both crowned county champions and now go on to the regional finals next term!

We cannot wait to see what the new year will bring for LSF Sport, and we’re excited to celebrate all the achievements of our incredible pupils!
