Loughborough Music Makers

Running from 09:00-12:00 on Saturdays during term time, the Loughborough Music Makers is open to any music lover in school Years 1-6. The programme offers children the opportunity to enhance their musical understanding beyond the school curriculum in a fun, supportive and ambitious environment. Our morning of specialist provision provides challenge and enjoyment for beginners and confident musicians alike, with activities centred around four key areas: musicianship, composition, singing and ensemble playing.

In Years 1 and 2 (option to attend for full morning or half morning 09:00-10:30), children will build early musicianship through varied and practical sessions incorporating singing games, listening activities, creative responses to carefully chosen repertoire, and developing their first ensemble playing skills using classroom percussion.

In Years 3 to 6, children will take these skills further. They will deepen their musicianship skills through a mixture of engaging practical activities and more formal music theory exercises, alongside a termly composition project inspired by an existing musical work. Children will continue to develop their ensemble skills through choral singing. Those who already play an instrument will form the orchestra, while beginners will be offered a group instrumental lesson.

Our staff team of professional musicians are passionate about supporting every child to reach their musical potential, tailoring each session to the needs and interests of pupils. We strive to provide an exciting, creative and ambitious programme that prepares children for further musical study whilst inspiring a lifelong love of music.
