Leicestershire primary schools set to honour Sir David Attenborough’s centenary year in ‘Big Sing’
Hundreds of young voices from Years 5 and 6 in primary schools across Leicestershire will unite for Big Sing 2027: Voices in Harmony, a flagship event organised by Fairfield Prep School, which this year celebrates the life and legacy of Sir David Attenborough.
Following his 100th birthday year, the concert is set to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s work with a brand-new song cycle titled Attenborough’s Wondrous World. The collection comprises six original songs written by Andrew Groom, Head of Prep Music at Loughborough Schools Foundation and has strong cross-curricular links with Key Stage 2 Science and Geography; the lyrics explore life across our planet and reinforce key concepts such as interdependence, conservation and environmental responsibility.
Building on the success of the 2026 event, this year’s Big Sing will take place at De Montfort Hall but this year will also feature full orchestral accompaniment by the Leicester Symphony Orchestra.
We’re extremely excited to be running the Big Sing for a second year and to, once again, unite hundreds of voices in a memorable musical experience. This year’s focus on the incredible life of Sir David Attenborough encourages participating schools to explore the beauty and interconnectedness of life on Earth. The event is set to be a truly special celebration, and accompaniment by the Leicester Symphony Orchestra will undoubtedly create an even more inspiring and atmospheric performance.

Designed to encourage confidence, teamwork and musicality in pupils of all abilities, we will provide participating schools with lyric videos, guide and backing tracks, actions videos and sheet music to help make rehearsals for the event as easy as possible.
Each participating school can bring its own related song to sing as a solo item, and there will also be an opportunity for schools to enter a poetry and artwork competition in which the winning pieces will be showcased during the concert.
Tickets for the Big Sing 2027 will be available for the parents and families of participating pupils to buy from De Montfort Hall’s box office in September.
