The impact of effective brand communication

Loughborough Schools Foundation named Independent Schools of the Year 2026 Finalists

We are delighted to share that Loughborough Schools Foundation has been selected as a finalist in The Marketing Award for Brand Communication category in the Independent Schools of The Year Awards 2026.

This follows the Independent Schools of The Year Awards’ earlier announcement of the commended entries, in which the Foundation was recognised for our work to safeguard our pupils’ digital footprint amidst the risks posed by major developments in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The story behind our marketing centres on ethical leadership within a modern digital landscape. By reducing the amount of identifiable, close-up pupil photography used across our central marketing channels, we have been continuously proving that a school can confidently market and communicate its excellence without compromising the online safety of its pupils.

Our two-stage permissions process comes into play when there is clear reason to use pupil images, only after questioning: ‘ Is this necessary, proportionate and in the child’s best interests to share an identifiable image?’  Permission is given on a case-by-case basis, meaning parents and pupils must ‘opt-in’ to grant the use of identifiable images, ultimately meaning our parents and pupils have much more control over their data and how we use it.

What makes our market positioning distinctive is that we turned this protective measure into a premium, sophisticated asset. Our Marketing Team created a visual framework utilising illustrations and atmospheric environmental photography to capture the warmth, ambition and community of our three schools. This groundbreaking shift catalysed national industry debate. Following coverage in The Guardian, TES, Midlands Gazette and a prominent School Management Plus feature, the Foundation was recognised as a sector trailblazer.

Our brand communication has definitively proved that a responsible, forward-thinking, and values-led marketing framework is the ultimate driver of institutional trust, parental confidence and robust enrolment growth.

The winners of each category, plus the overall Independent School of the Year, will be announced at the awards ceremony being held on Wednesday 14 October in London.
