National quiz champions

Fairfield Prep School crowned champions of the 2025–26 National Online General Knowledge Quiz competition

We are delighted to be celebrating an exceptional academic achievement after being crowned champions of the 2025–26 National Online General Knowledge Quiz competition.

Having successfully navigated the semi-finals in November last year, the Fairfield team was both surprised and delighted to receive an invitation to compete in the national finals, held on Tuesday 16 June. Facing 26 leading prep schools from across the country, including Haberdashers’ Aske’s, Magdalen College Junior, Yarm Prep, Salcombe Prep and Avon House School, the standard of competition was extremely high.

Across six challenging rounds, pupils were tested on a wide breadth of topics, from history and science to geography and current affairs. Demonstrating outstanding teamwork, composure and intellectual curiosity, the Fairfield team worked collaboratively throughout, carefully strategising their approach to maximise points.

In a dramatic finish, Fairfield secured victory by a margin of just five points, earning them the coveted national title. This remarkable success marks a first for the school and highlights the strength of its academic enrichment programme.

We are incredibly proud of this group of pupils. Their success is testament not only to their knowledge, but to their teamwork, resilience and willingness to challenge themselves. To compete against such strong schools and emerge as national champions is a truly outstanding achievement.

Jamie Moseley, Deputy Head Academic at Fairfield Prep School

The online competition, organised by Quiz Club, is designed to promote a love of learning and intellectual curiosity among primary and prep school pupils, encouraging them to engage with knowledge beyond the classroom.

Reflecting the level of challenge, questions in the final included:

  • What does the word ‘reminisce’ mean?
  • What is the longest river in Asia?
  • In virtually all cases, what does the nucleus of an atom consist of?
  • In which century did the Church of England become the established church in England?
  • Which artist created The Thinker, unveiled in 1904?

The team’s victory stands as a proud moment for the entire school community and reinforces our commitment to academic excellence and enrichment opportunities that inspire pupils to aim high.
